Birthday: A new beginnings

It’s my birthday! Yay! And I know some of us regard birthdays as a new beginning.

Ok, so now it’s time for you to face the beginning of a brand new additional year to your life. Can you believe it? It seems like you’ll never reach this far and now you’re here again trying to plan your bucket lists for this specific age. And then you realized, you just did all of that planning on your last year’s birthday. Did your year fly by as fast as mine did? Well, if you’re like me, this can be both an exciting time and a frightening time, as we stared down our goals for the coming year.

Was your year like mine where some days you weren’t sure whether there was going to be a next day? And then some days when you feel gloomy and the Lord brought sunshine and praises?

Why don’t you pause here in meditation and consider those days?

Let us start with the dark days. Think of the days you cannot see yourself even making it through; think of those days and thank the Lord for being with you each and every step. Take time.

How did that feel? Was it hard or was it rejoicing as maybe you realized, that you are still here with another year. And more importantly God never left your side. I hope you find the same peace that the Israelite felt when God told them to “be strong and courageous, do not be afraid and do not panic, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go” in Joshua 1:9

What about those days when you couldn’t seem to be able to escape the warm sunshine, fresh breezes with laughter and joy? Why don’t you stop reading again here and remember the days that were far from grey. Thank Him for His provision, love and care on the days that you had this past year that were filled with overflowing praise and thanksgiving. You can list them down if you want.

Can I share with you my prayer on this year’s birthday? Can you join me in prayer?

Dear sovereign and Holy God, thank you for this moment when I can take the time to stop and reflect back on your hand guiding me through life. When I can remember how you take me each step so that I can draw closer to You and come to know You better. For the hard days when I learned reliance on You, and for the good days when I learned to praise You all the more. Thank you Lord God for the days you give me to love you and be in Your presence. Thank you for last year. This past year has included some days of pain and heartaches but other days of joyful praise and thanksgiving. Thank you for giving me today so that I can look back and see You in every day. Thank You too for another birthday, so I can look ahead with anticipation of seeing You all the more. In Jesus Name, amen.

If today, even if its not your birthday and you decide to make a new set of plans and goals. As you do, consider your relationship with God, see if your plans this year can focus on what will bring Him the most glory and draw you into a deeper walk with God.

My prayer for you is to have a clean heart and renewed spirit. May you resolve to living your life as an ambassador of what the Lord has done in and through your life.
